Overview
Reporting to the Analytics Manager in the Commercial Group, the principal role of the Wholesale Markets Analyst is to provide analysis to the Trading and Structuring functions. It is crucial in the role to recognise the time sensitive nature of the requests, respond swiftly to meet tight deadlines, and complete work accurately. The Wholesale Markets Analyst is responsible for data management, transaction management, power plant activity support, and other ad hoc analysis. These activities are in support of the growing Wholesale business with a particular focus on maximizing gross margin and effective risk management.
The wholesale commodities that SmartestEnergy US (SEUS) transacts include power, gas, RECs, and carbon certificates. The Analytics group is responsible for all structured products valuation, power plant optimization, market analysis, and data relied on by the Commercial group. As such, there are opportunities to develop advanced modelling and valuation skills.
In this role, you will be involved with the following:
Manage market data including collection, cleaning, and visualization.
Analyze markets using existing and ad hoc models to provide value-add insight.
Develop and publish daily market reports.
Manage transactions including P&L analysis and position reporting.
Support SEUS power plant activities including optimization, forecasting, actualization, and financial reporting.
Provide pricing support to the Traders.
Maintain records, developing and maintaining procedures.
Develop knowledge of the U.S. electricity and natural gas industry.
Develop an understanding of wholesale market concepts and the application of those into Commercial department activities.
Manage time and the prioritization of competing work demands.
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
1-3 years in U.S. energy or commodity markets as a trade analyst, risk analyst, or similar role.
Graduate in Quantitative Finance, Engineering, Computer Science, or related quantitative field.
Proficient in MS Excel and a data analysis programming language, e.g., R, Python
Experienced in database setup, and data import and extraction
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal skills, able to influence and build relationships as a participant in a team environment.
Work under general supervision, is self-motivated, and proactive.
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels
