Overview
The main elements of the Trade Control Analyst role involve the monitoring of new and existing trading positions, including trade control and reviewing/execution on confirmations. The role will also involve calculation of risk metrics, creation and distribution of risk reporting, and development of risk reporting templates. This will cover power, gas, capacity, and renewable markets in various ISOs. These activities will often require interaction with our external counterparties, exchanges, and our FCM. This work is crucial for the Company to understand the risks taken around tradable and non-tradable exposures and make the appropriate business judgments.
Though the main focus will be on these main risk areas the role is also required to report on and perform development activities for other products and components. This could include but not be limited to reporting on and modelling VaR, volatility, options, price simulation, etc.
This is a hybrid remote role, with periodic (either weekly or monthly) travel to either the New York City or Houston office required.
In this role, you will be involved with the following:
- Produce accurate reports on highly complex and detailed data in a timely manner using the existing ETRM system and MS products (primarily Excel), with particular regard to markets that are illiquid and have limited price discovery
- Trade Control - Reconciling end of day trading positions between our ERTM system and our external counterparties and exchanges as well as validating our end of day positions with Retail customer
- Constructing the daily PL and VaR report using our ETRM system
- Loading of daily price curves into the ETRM system to support position validation and risk metrics
- Development of new risk reporting templates and functionality fit for new business requirements, including testing, and documentation. These report templates shall leverage the functionality and capability of the existing ETRM system and attempt to limit processing outside of the ETRM system when possible
- Assist the Head of Risk with various report preparation as required
- Assist the Finance Group in settlement, reporting, and audit activities
- Undertaking ad-hoc analysis to meet the needs of the business as requested.
- Participation in other projects related to risk management and reporting as requested
- Creating, reviewing, and executing confirmations for bilateral trades with external counterparties and fulfilling Dodd Frank reporting requirements for applicable trades
- Understanding and conducting risk activities other than the main focus and providing cover for the other members of the Risk team
- Ensure that information security policies and procedures are adhered to
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a Pricing/Trading/Risk Role, preferably in US Retail Power or Commodities
- Trade Control experience
- Programming experience (VBA, SQL, Python, etc.)
- Understanding of basic risk concepts such as volatility, correlation, and VaR
- ETRM systems and deal flow
- Advanced Excel skills including lookups, pivot table, and database integration
- Intense attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness
- Strong communication skills and assertiveness
- Has vision and ability to problem solve independently
- Strong analysis backed by critical and strategic thinking skills
- Strong data analytics skills
