Legal Counsel (IT)
You will be an active member of the Company’s Legal Department, acting as the champion of all legal matters related to the Company’s IT activities.
How will I spend my time in this role?
- Responsibility for the legal review and negotiation of contracts the IT team is required to enter into with external parties;
- Responsibility for prioritising the requirements of individual transactions and whether to outsource to external law firms;
- Ownership of the external communication and liaison with external legal firms for all the Company’s IT related legal matters and responsibility for making use of the external legal service in the most efficient manner and monitoring the legal expense spent against the budget;
- Ownership of the establishment and maintenance of the legal policy, framework and guidelines required to oversee and mitigate the legal risk in relation to the Company’s IT activities;
- Responsibility for identifying the key legal risks the Company is facing in its IT activities and reporting these regularly to the GC;
- Ownership of conducting the legal review and preparing the legal opinion if and when legal disputes occur with external parties;
- Responsibility for the development and training of all staff and advisers associated with the IT team’s legal matters.
What skills/experience do I need to be successful?
- Qualified solicitor;
- Experience in either private practice allocated to the IT team or in-house counsel with responsibility for IT matters;
- Broad knowledge of IT contracting structures;
- Ability to identify critical business issues, to negotiate major contracts, to structure collaborative business enterprises, and to lead teams of internal executives and external professionals.
