Carbon Analyst
You will work to support the Renewables Team in the valuation, modelling and contracting for standard and non-standard transactions carried out by the Net Zero Trading Team and other commercial functions.
You will assist in exploring and pursuing commercial opportunities in new and existing markets, with the goal of supporting SmartestEnergy’s overall business plan and strategic objectives.
How will I spend my time in this role?
- Provide good quality fundamental analysis on Carbon markets, both Compliance and Voluntary reporting to the Head of Carbon, the Net Zero leadership in London and any other ad hoc projects from time-to-time;
- Drive the renewables contracting process from approvals through to signature.
- Explore and drive opportunities to achieve stretch initiatives;
- Monitor SmartestEnergy’s contractual obligations remain within the risk and control framework with respect to credit, cash flow, FX and risk limits;
- Support accurate receipts, logging and transfers out of renewable certificates inventory & timely entry of renewable certificates positions in ETRM;
- Support reconciliation of renewable certificates inventory from holding accounts to the systems of record;
- Support internally developed spreadsheets, VBA and tools, utilising Python where necessary;
- Address queries and analysis on request from various internal teams, external customers, and 3rd parties;
- Develop and maintain renewable certificates analysis and ad-hoc automation, utilising internally developed databases;
- Maintain detailed and easy to follow process documentation;
- Business as usual and ad-hoc project participation and delivery;
- Ensure that price curves are maintained with current, relevant & consistent with pricing methodology.
What skills/experience do I need to be successful?
- Motivated to work in the renewable energy sector;
- A good understanding of the environmental, economic, and political imperatives driving the energy transition;
- Educated to degree level;
- High numerical competency;
- Ability to use excel efficiently.
