Enterprise and Operational Risk Analyst
The Role
SmartestEnergy is entering a rapid phase of growth with its global ambition. To
achieve these ambitions, it recognizes the execution of its business operations
inevitably has both opportunities and risks. This role within the organization will
develop the maintenance of the enterprise risk and controls framework,
identification and assessment of emerging risk and controls issues across
operational activities, and support controls management across new
strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the second line of defence, this team is responsible for the
governance and oversight of risk and controls across the business.
Support the team in providing oversight of governance documentation
(policies and procedures) across the business, ensuring updates are tracked
and approved in accordance with the company processes. Where necessary
participate in update activity.
Help in coordination of the regular update of the Enterprise Risk Framework
across the business at both entity and departmental levels, providing insights
on the current and emerging risks, coaching teams on maintenance of risk
registers, associated controls, and risk monitoring.
Leading incident investigations (risk events), collaboratively supporting the
business in write-ups, root cause analysis, effective challenge on mitigations
and tracking successful resolution of associated actions
Support the Business assurance process, updating dashboards / action
trackers, coaching teams to provide clear business cases, appropriate risk
assessments and quality tracking of pre and post go live actions including any
boundary conditions, in conjunction with the E&OR team.
Support the development and maintenance of appropriate process and
controls documentation (including risk and controls matrices (RACM)) for key
processes across SmartestEnergy.
Co-ordinate within team in relation to reporting of operational risk metrics
(KRIs/KPIs) to provide insights into the quality of our business processes and
performance of our controls.
Support in the execution of access controls for the trading applications;
access permissions, segregation of duties and periodic reviews.
Business partner in all matters related to risk and controls with other functions
and departments, including providing assurance activities to improve controls
across projects, processes, and systems across the front, middle and back
office.
What skills/experience do I need to be successful?
- This is a development role therefore interested in individuals that are
working towards becoming either a risk or controls professional. - Some risk and control experience and frameworks (ERM frameworks, SOX,
COSO, ISO31000, etc.). - Good working knowledge of energy trading and supply chain business;
front- to-back office best practices. - Good knowledge of operational risk & control processes and practices,
including experience in their application; knowledge of operational rigor /
testing frameworks and practices; proven experience in design and
testing of controls. - Good report writing skills and able to communicate with clarity to
stakeholders. - Demonstrates a track record of successfully working in high performing
teams, energy, and motivation. - Sound communication skills for presentations, report writing and
summarizing non-technical key issues. - Able to take and maintain an independent approach and challenge
where appropriate. - Degree, or equivalent qualification, but will consider business experience as a substitute.
- Successful candidate would be from either (i) energy industry (ii) an external audit firm or (iii) risk and control’s function.
- Awareness and learning of evolving financial, regulatory and compliance requirements.
- Ability to apply risk/control knowledge and communicate data issues andcontrol recommendations with transparency and integrity.

What does hybrid working mean to us?
Hybrid working typically means 2 days in the office location listed on this advert and 3 days working at home each week. Some occasional travel to our other offices may be required.
