Risk Manager - 24 Month FTC
The Risk Manager will be supporting the Head of (Market) Risk for the risk transformation and change journey over the next 2 years. There will be many new process and system improvements made within the Risk Group to strengthen the “as is” and to support business growth.
How will I spend my time in this role?
- Leading a small change team of risk professionals to support the change agenda. Bringing in additional resources when required; and, outsourcing where required. This needs to be well planned and coordinated as early on as possible to avoid delays to the change programme
- Provides expertise and advisory services on types of Model Validation, Complex and Structured trade approval and Capital allocation optimisation
- Working closely with the Head of Market Risk within the Risk Group providing support in identifying areas needing improvement; identifying gaps; and identifying processes we need to stop – following the concept, “Start, Stop, Continue”
- Supporting the growth agenda and ensuring that new business opportunities are operationally ready through identifying changes required to existing processes, systems and frameworks
- Encouraging a culture of continuous improvement to increase efficiency and effectiveness of reporting, processes and controls
- Supports the creation of forward price curves. Helps with the setting up (facilitation) of spot and forward prices into trade capture/valuation systems and models curves where required
- Acts as a SME (Subject Matter Expert) for Market Risk and Product Control;
- Participates in IT projects on systems development\enhancement (e.g. data feed process setup and industrialization; prototyping offline analytical tools; performing UAT, maintaining ETRM reference data)
- Provides project support on the Risk Group transformation and improvement plans covering people, process and systems
- Influencing the IT system agenda and (investment) roadmap to ensure that all the Market Risk and Product Control needs are included in the IT planning process and delivered on
- Develops collaborative relationships with key stakeholders across the board (FO, MO, Ops, Finance and IT)
- Manages and provides direction for the Market Risk and Product Control teams; aligns to and contributing towards the Risk Group’s (2yr) Roadmap.
What skills/experience do I need to be successful?
- Excellent knowledge of the physical and financial markets in general and the risk management function in the Power & Gas energy (trading and utility) industry in particular
- Exposure to the physical Gas & Power industry is a prerequisite
- Led change teams and change initiatives within energy wholesale and retail companies
- Clear vision of risk reporting infrastructure, deal life cycle processes and complex structured deal representation in an ETRM system
- Previous management experience and a track record of successfully leading and motivating a high performing team; Leadership experience
- Strong IT skills and aptitude, experience of driving IT system improvements (ETRM implementation, enhancement and maintenance)
- An Energy Trading background from the Gas & Power industry with Considerable experience in Risk Management, although you may have previously worked within other functions within the Front, Middle or Back Office
